We are working on preparing for ISTEP. Students are learning how to repond to open-ended questions. Students have learned the rules of SLAMS.

Help support this work at home. When students are responding to open-ended questions, remind them to use SLAMS.

Also, we will be practicing responding to a writing prompt. Attached are some practice prompts as well as the rubric used to score writing prompts.

Meet Miss Stein

Welcome to my website! I am happy that I will be serving our third graders again this year. My classroom respresents the LSU Tigers. I am looking forward to an exciting, engaging, successful year for my incoming Tigers. Teaching is rewarding to me in different ways but what I love most is that the childern teach me just as much as I teach them.

I would like to tell you a little about myself. I am from South Bend, IN. I moved to Indianapolis to finish my degree. I graduated with a degree in education in 2009 from IUPUI. I plan on going back to school for my master's very soon. I enjoy watching movies, reading, playing with my dog, Dallas, and traveling.

Animal Diorama Project

At the beginning of the year, students studied animal classificaiton. In writer's workshop, we are beginning to write an animal research paper. Students have chosen an animal that they would like to learn more about. To accompany our research paper we are having students make an animal diorama. The information for this project is attached. This project is due October 17.

The ABC's of LSU gives important information about what is happening in LSU.
Expectaions of an LSU Tiger were created with the help of the tigers. These are posted in our classroom to refer back to when needed.

Diorama Galore!

Third grade dioramas turned out AMAZING!! Students researched a specific animal and created a diorama of their habitat. Our third graders participated in a gallery walk and practiced giving each other written feedback on their projects.Well done third grade!!

IREAD-3

According to Indiana Department of Education,

'The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with Public Law 109 which "requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four.'
