Partnership Hopes to Help Garden Site Grow
Updated January 8, 2012
Garden Club students visited the Indy Parks & Recreation, Indiana University Health, Indianapolis Parks Foundation and Gleaners Food Bank 8-acre garden, now called Indy Urban Acres.
The IUA is a farm that harvests more than a half acre of vegetables and fruits. All produce goes directly to Gleaners Food Banks that delivers food to under-served neighbors. Eventually part of this farm with be a teaching farm where school groups can come in and learn about farming. Students who attended the press conference, were able to harvest the produce, pack it onto a Gleaners truck, and also planted lettuce for a fall crop.
