There are many ways to get involved in the life of the Challenge Foundation Academy. We have listed several below and hope that you’ll get involved. Contact Jenny Boyts, our Community-School Coordinator, or any other member of our staff if you wish to sign up. Please understand, we are required to conduct a criminal background check for anyone working with children in our building, which includes CFA volunteers.
Be a ReadUp Tutor and work one-on-one with one of our 3rd or 4th graders. You’ll help students improve not only their reading skills but also their whole outlook on academics. Tutors/Mentors work with students 1hr. per week in one of the following time slots: Tuesdays 2:20pm – 3:20pm, Wednesdays 3:45pm – 4:45pm, or Thursdays 3:45pm – 4:45pm. For more information, see Jenny Boyts soon. Tutoring has started, but we are always looking for new tutors! Click here for more information on Readup.
Classroom Assistants and Reading Tutors:
Students in every classroom in our building can benefit from some assistant and a little extra attention from someone interested in their progress. If you are interested in working in your child’s classroom or any other at CFA, please contact your child’s teacher directly. We only ask that classroom volunteers commit to a consistent schedule so that our teachers can know exactly when to expect them.
Volunteer any day of the week (for at least an hour), be a role model and help us build a culture of discipline and respect for all students. Teachers may rely on you for support in classrooms, on the playground, cafeteria, or in hallways. With some training and orientation, we’ll invite you to be part of a dynamic team of male mentors lending a patient ear and calm support to help the CFA Family.
Office and Administrative Help:
The CFA staff meets the first Tuesday of every month. We are looking for a volunteer who can help us by answering phones and receiving visitors in our front office the first Tuesday of every month so that Mrs. Tay, our Front Office Administrator, can attend our meetings. Please contact Ms. Brown if you are interested in volunteering.
The Pencil Crew:
In order to save valuable time, we want to equip each classroom with a continuous supply of sharpened pencils. We’ll supply the pencils and the sharpener. All we need is a crew of parents who can come in whenever they wish to keep our school well stock and supplied with sharpened pencils. See Ms. Brown for more details (and pencils).
