Meet Ms. Spurgeon

Ms. Courtney Spurgeon

This is my sixth year at CFA.  I taught third grade for my first two years here.  This will be my fourth year as an Intervention Specialist.  This year I will primarily be working on Math with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  I grew up in Indianapolis, attending Decatur Central High School. After graduating with honors, I attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education in 2002.

In college, I was on the Varsity Bowling team, the Equestrian team, and the Polo team (pony polo, not water polo!) I also volunteered for a therapeutic horseback-riding program called CHAPS.

After graduating, I studied abroad at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. I recently earned a Master's degree in Special Education at IUPUI

I have 2 dogs, Dyson and Dagsy.

I play ice hockey. I’m a goalie most of the time although I play defense as well.  One of my women's hockey teams, the Indy Speed, competed in Nationals in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2010!

I also play the Irish sport called hurling or camogie.  Camogie is the women's version of hurling.  My camogie team went to San Francisco, California in September, 2011 to compete in Nationals!  I played full back, which is pretty much the last line of defense in front of the goalie.  We won the Shield Cup for Junior Camogie, which is like 3rd place.  We competed against teams from Washington D.C., Seattle, and Denver.
